Beyond Limits 6: Frozen Edition 2.0 - A Meaningful Trek for Children’s Cancer Foundation in Frosty Taiga

Join us for Beyond Limits 6: Frozen Edition 2.0 | A Meaningful Trek for Children’s Cancer Foundation in Frosty Taiga, happening on 11 - 21 December 2023!

This is Beyond Expeditions' 6th charity expedition. This is our second time heading back into the freezing cold Taiga (we were here back in 2019!) to raise funds for cancer patients from Children’s Cancer Foundation!

Registration is now open, and we’re looking for families who want to embark on unconventional, meaningful trips with their children and like-minded expedition-ers who believe in our cause for supporting the potential of children with cancer.

We’re capping it at 20 participants total; read on to find out more!

For Beyond Limits 6, we are bringing you and your family for a 3-day trek in Taiga, Mongolia.

Taiga, an obscure but mystical part of the world, straddles the Mongolian-Russian border and contains diverse terrain and stunning landscapes. Think majestic steppe-taiga valleys and rugged peaks to breathtakingly dense boreal forests — its beauty is unparalleled in most of the world.

The trek is not going to be easy, because Beyond Limits 6 is here to parallel the daily challenges our young cancer patients face daily.

Because we are here to save the lives of millions of cancer patients by helping to fund their treatment.

This is not an easy expedition, and it is not for everyone. We greatly prioritise the makeup of the team, and thus go through a strictly selective process to ensure we honour the meaning of why we do the expedition in the first place. So, before you say yes to this edition of Beyond Limits, read on to find out if this expedition is for you.

Are you a good fit for this charity expedition?

Beyond Limits charity expeditions are not for everyone. We want our participants’ experience to be challenging because of the nature of the expedition, and less so because of the people. So here are several factors you should align with, to know if you are a good fit for the Beyond Limits experience!

  • Even though we have a well-planned itinerary, changes will be made during the trip itself due to unexpected circumstances.

So, if you're not ready to embrace change, then maybe Netflix is a better option than this expedition. If you're open to embracing the unknown, then we think you'll fit right in.

  • No drama queens, no turning against other team members!

Simply put, don’t be ‘toxic’, if we could be Gen-Z with you.

Every team member’s well-being is priority. Period. We work hand-in-hand to ensure we complete the expedition together. We're all about teamwork and supporting one another because we want everyone to have an awesome time, so we need people who are kind, caring, and drama-free. Leave the diva attitude at home, and let's focus on having a positive and fun experience together!

  • There may be instances where cars break down, or weather conditions take a turn for the worse. Regardless, the country’s locals know the land like the back of their hand, and have kept our team safe throughout the years. We love and respect the people of the land we visit, and we trust them to show us the ropes.

If you can't trust the locals, then maybe you should stay home and watch a travel show instead! But, if you're down to learn from and trust the people who know the land best, then you'll feel right at home.

  • For this expedition, we will appoint team leaders within the group to lead each small ‘pod’ (3-4 members each).

Your team leader is there to ensure the well-being of you and your respective team members, working hand in hand with our overall-in-charge, Scott, to ensure everyone’s safety and the expedition runs smoothly. So, if you're the type of person who likes to go rogue, then this might not be the adventure for you.

So, if you're ready to step out of your comfort zone and create some amazing memories, then come join us! Bring your sense of humor, your willingness to learn, and your positive energy, and let's make a difference together.

Beyond Limits 6 will be a once-in-a-lifetime, life-changing family holiday.

Leisure trips to countries like Japan and Australia are typically deemed more ‘suitable’ for end-of-year holidays with family, especially when there are young children. We want to change that for you and your children.

As you firm up family travel plans for December this year, Beyond Limits 6 is an option for you to make December a wildly meaningful adventure for your family.

With Beyond Limits 6, we want to plant seeds for parents, both Singaporeans and expats, out there that ‘unconventional’ shouldn’t = ‘don’t go’. Different climates and terrain may seem intimidating, but we invite you to see that unconventional experiences are what your child may need to see themselves as ‘more’, beyond the limits of how they currently see themselves. (Read about 10-year old Lucas’s transformation here)

In fact, this expedition could be what YOU need too, to see that you can do much more even as a parent.

At this point, you may be wondering; why? Will my child be able to make it, being so young? Will I myself be able to conquer this? If that’s the case, you’re getting in touch with the essence of our Beyond Limits expedition.

We want you to be inspired by what you can do.

As parents, certain beliefs may have formed. You may think that because you’re a parent now, you no longer can conquer challenges because you’re not that young anymore, and that parenting has taken its toll on you.

Or maybe, you’re seeking opportunities to break away from the common ‘parent’ misconception. You believe that a parent’s identity is not a burden; but, instead, an inspiration. You want to do something that challenges you and inspires your child to be a better person.

If you find yourself nodding or caught off-guard… This expedition is here for you for all the right reasons, then.

Because with this challenge, you’ll push your limits of endurance and resilience in Taiga, where the bitter cold dips below -30°C as you traverse through 30-50km of rolling hills and rugged, mountainous terrain. This is meant to parallel the onerous journey of a cancer-diagnosed child, to help us stand together with these young warriors as they march on.

This trek also pushes you to raise funds to alleviate the daily financial and emotional burdens children cancer patients and their families face.

This is a chance for your children to connect with their greatest potential.

No matter how young, age is never a limit to how big a child’s heart can be. We want BL6 to be a uniquely meaningful opportunity for your child to give beyond what they may have believed they could, while also building a core memory with you to relive for many years.

We want your child to walk away from this expedition, being able to proudly proclaim, “Wow! I survived this challenging expedition when I was only this age, and I even raised so much money to support the lives of young cancer patients. I am a capable child who can do amazing things to impact others!”

This groundbreaking statement your child can say to themselves is something they can carry forth as they grow up and into this world. Through this expedition, we can break through any limiting beliefs your child may have of their capabilities in bringing meaning to this world, and inspire them to keep looking and challenging themselves beyond what they think they are capable of.

The experiences they are exposed to at this tender age range before 8 are also pivotal in their development (read our article featuring Judy and her young son’s expedition experience here!). If values like empathy, kindness and appreciation are important for you to instill in your child, Beyond Limits 6 will provide boundless opportunities for your child to explore these on their own. Here are some visual posters done up by my team’s amazing designer, to capture insights from research that shows the importance of exposure to nature for young children.

How exactly will our funds be used to assist Children’s Cancer Foundation in their mission?

Children’s Cancer Foundation’s mission is a commitment to improving the quality of life of children with cancer and their families and children impacted by cancer through enhancing their emotional, social and medical well-being. All participants are asked to fundraise a minimum of SGD$5000 with GIVE.asia, with 100% of the gross proceeds to be donated to Children’s Cancer Foundation. Our funds will support them in these few ways;

What limits are you willing to break through, to serve the cause you truly believe in?

When our founder, Scott, lost his grandfather to cancer, he found his compelling vision; raising awareness and funds to support underprivileged cancer warriors. This vision led him to embark on his first solo expedition in 2017. Taking on a challenging 800km trek across Mongolia, Scott raised an incredible amount of $8,630 from 67 samaritans. He continued to conquer many incredible charity expeditions ever since then, charging forth with a burning passion to challenge his limits and garner support for the causes he believe in.

Scott’s ferocious pursuit of his vision reminds us that “all breakthroughs start with a change in your beliefs”. Beyond Limits was birthed in the heat of his vision, and it’s been running on a high ever since Scott established it back in 2018 with 18 other passionate expedition-ers, including 4 cancer survivors.

“We have brought many on their first charity trek, creating opportunities for people to embark on intensely meaningful expeditions and fundraising efforts. And now, we also want Beyond Limits to inspire you to break through your own beliefs. What is a cause you truly believe in, a cause that fires you up to a whole new level of intensity and focus? What kind of impact greatly excites you when you think of achieving it? Hold on to that vision. Listen to how it speaks to the core of who you are, and let your passion move you towards doing whatever it takes to create the impact you truly want to see.”

“Beyond Limits is the essence of living out who we believe we are.

Ask yourself, what limits do you have? And when did you decide to accept these limitations you created for yourself?

How can we break through the concrete boundaries we’ve boxed ourselves in? Simple: an extremely compelling vision.

Once you have that, it’s all crystal clear. No what ifs, no excuses, no blaming others. Because that’s when you rise to a different level of intensity and focus. Where all your shoulds (regrets), have now become your musts. When challenges come your way, you will find a way, if not, you are going to make a way. That’s when the real you shows up. And you will never be able to hide that extreme level of spontaneity and excitement that you burn so passionately with, every moment of your life.

All breakthroughs start with a change in your beliefs.

So... what beliefs do you represent?”

— SCOTT TAY, BE FOUNDER
